It has been reported that two members of the National People’s Power (NPP) were abducted today (27) while on their way to cast their votes to elect the chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha.

The incident has disrupted the council session and prevented it from proceeding as scheduled.

Furthermore, a motion has been tabled to resume the council’s proceedings only after the two abducted members return safely.

It was reported yesterday that the representative nominated by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) for the post of chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha is Lasantha Wickramasekera, also known as Midigama Lasa, who is a powerful underworld figure. This underworld criminal is said to have close links with Harakkata, is a suspect in the murder case of Sunshine Sudda, is currently serving a suspended sentence, and is facing several cases in court.
