A newly formed group of Sri Lankan expatriates in Austria has taken a significant step towards contributing to Sri Lanka’s national development by initiating the “Clean Sri Lanka – Austria Association”. Members of the association met with Ambassador M.R.K. Lenagala at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Vienna on 17 May 2025 to explore how they can support the “Clean Sri Lanka Project” from abroad.

The meeting focused on identifying practical ways in which the Sri Lankan community in Austria, especially the youth, can participate in development projects aligned with the objectives of the Clean Sri Lanka initiative. The association aims to serve as a collective platform for expatriates interested in contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, Head of Chancery Mr. Mahesh Gunawardana delivered a presentation on the Clean Sri Lanka Project. The presentation was based on material shared by the Presidential Secretariat with Sri Lankan Missions worldwide to raise awareness among overseas Sri Lankans and encourage their involvement.

Ambassador Lenagala commended the group for their enthusiasm and initiative. He encouraged them to finalize the legal and operational structure of the association, including funding mechanisms, before proposing specific projects. He assured the group that the Embassy would support their efforts and facilitate connections with the Clean Sri Lanka Secretariat in Colombo.
