A state-sponsored funeral for the late veteran actress Malani Fonseka, hailed as the Queen of Sri Lankan cinema, is scheduled to be held at the Independence Square premises on Monday (26th).
A discussion regarding the funeral arrangements was held this afternoon (24th) at the Presidential Secretariat under the patronage of the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, and the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
Her remains will be placed at her residence today till tomorrow, 9 AM, and the remains of Malani Fonseka will be placed at the Tharangani Hall of the National Film Corporation, Colombo 07, tomorrow (25th), and then at the Independence Square Mansion on the following day (26th) for public viewing.
The final rites will be conducted on Monday afternoon (26th) at Independence Square with full state honors.
The meeting also focused on the arrangements for the public to pay their last respects and the necessary facilities to be provided for people coming from across the island to attend the funeral.
