A photograph was shared on social media showing Yoshitha Rajapaksa making a peace sign inside a building following his arrest. The police spokesman Budhika Manatunga stated that the photograph might have been taken by a friend of Yoshitha, rather than by a policeman.

The photo was reportedly taken either at the Criminal Investigations Department or at the Beliatta interchange on the Southern Expressway, following his arrest.
There were questions raised as to why Yoshitha Rajapaksa was not handcuffed after being arrested. The police spokesman explained that there was no need to do so, as Yoshitha was not being disruptive and was cooperating with the authorities.
In essence, the police spokesman was saying: “Calm down, everyone. Yoshitha Rajapaksa is a cool guy and was just chilling out—nothing to worry about.”
Yoshitha Rajapaksa was arrested on the advice of the Attorney General after it was determined that there was sufficient evidence to charge him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act No. 5 of 2006.
