Minister of Plantations Samantha Vidyarathna has warned the Unugolla Plantation Company to immediately remove Member of Parliament Vadivel Suresh from the bungalow he is occupying. The Minister stated that if this is not done, agreements with the estate company will be canceled.
This announcement was made during the Badulla District Development Coordination Meeting, held yesterday at the Badulla District Secretariat. Minister Vidyarathna highlighted that former MP Vadivel Suresh has been residing in a bungalow in Hali Ela, Unugolla, without authorization. The Unugolla Estate Administration has been instructed to take immediate action to remove him.
The Minister also pointed out a similar incident in the past, where former Eastern Province Governor Sendhil Thondaman had forcibly occupied a bungalow at Dickwella Estate for 13 years.
Additionally, the meeting decided to temporarily suspend the distribution of lands in the Badulla District owned by the Land Reform Commission (LRC), effective immediately.
Minister Vidyarathna explained:
“We have observed that the Land Reform Commission has acted unfairly, prioritizing the interests of politicians. This has led to great injustice. Therefore, the Badulla District Coordination Committee has decided to halt the distribution of LRC lands and initiate an investigation into these irregularities.”
This meeting marked the first District Coordination Committee gathering since the current government assumed office.
