Controversial Jaffna MP Dr. Archchuna Ramanathan appeared before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today through his lawyer. Following his surrender, the court ordered the recall of the warrant issued against him for failing to appear in connection with a road accident and assault case.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake had recently (on the 26th) issued a warrant for MP Ramanathan’s arrest through the Jaffna Senior Superintendent of Police. This was after the MP failed to respond to a summons regarding the incident, which occurred on Baseline Road in 2021.
Dr. Ramanathan attracted significant public attention on August 21, during the new Parliament session, when he refused to vacate the Opposition Leader’s seat and live-streamed the incident on Facebook.
