General Election 2024 : Voter Turnout Falls Below 70% in Many Districts

Polling for the 2024 General Election concluded at 4:00 pm, and ballot boxes are currently being transported to counting centers, according to reports. Data shows that voter turnout across the island remained below 70%.

The vote percentages for each district have been released. Kandy recorded a 65% turnout, Nuwara Eliya 68%, Matale 65%,  Batticaloa 64%, and Matara 61%, Galle 64%, Puttalam saw a turnout of 64%, while 65% of voters cast their ballots in the Anuradhapura district. Meanwhile, Polonnaruwa had a 65% voter turnout, Jaffna 63%, Kegalle 65%, Monaragala 63%,

Additionally, voter turnout was 66% in Badulla, 70% in Mannar, 67% in Trincomalee, and 63% in Mullaitivu, 63% in Kilinochchi.
