Former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte was arrested in Kandy after police found an unregistered Lexus SUV without number plates at his wife’s house in Mirihana, Nugegoda.
The SUV was discovered on October 26, following a tip received by police headquarters about a luxury vehicle without plates at a three-story house in Mirihana Ambuldeniya. Police identified the house as belonging to Ratwatte’s wife, Shashi Prabha Ratwatte.

With approval from the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court, the Mirihana Police inspected the house and the vehicle. Ratwatte and his wife explained to the police that her mother lived in the house, and that Ratwatte’s private secretary, who was recently shot dead in Katugastota, Kandy, Sanjeewa Basnayake had parked the vehicle in their garage three weeks earlier.
According to Lankadeepa* Newspaper today, Ratwatte and his family were unreachable for further questioning and had left their Kandy home without answering any calls. However, Mirihana police located and arrested him in Kandy this morning.
He was taken to Mirihana Police for interrogation and following that produced to the Nugegooda Magistrate Court. The additional Magistrate ordered him to remand till the 07th of November
