The government has announced the resumption of visa issuance through the previous system, starting from midnight today (26th).

Minister of Public Security, Vijitha Herath, stated that all foreign nationals can now apply for visas under the prior system.

“The visa service provided by VFS Global led to numerous difficulties, particularly for foreigners visiting Sri Lanka, who faced significant challenges in obtaining visas. In response, and following a court ruling, the Ministry of Public Security has stepped in to reinstate the visa issuance process under the old system within the last 24 hours,” said Minister Vijitha Herath.

“From midnight today, foreigners will be able to apply for visas online, with applications processed within 24 hours. This is a major improvement. Additionally, we have launched an immediate forensic audit to investigate any irregularities linked to VFS Global. Any issues discovered will result in future legal action. This change ensures that those involved in business and investment will also benefit from the updated visa facilities” he added.
