Minuwangoda Magistrate yesterday ordered the police to immediately arrest and produce in court a beautician and her aides responsible for a hair treatment that left a woman seriously ill and caused significant hair loss. The police reported that the salon owner and her assistants have fled their homes, and they have even removed the signboard of the salon, Kalani Salon, located in the SANASA Building, Minuwangoda.

The victim, a mother of two, was discharged from the hospital yesterday and shared her experience with Lankasara.

15000 Charged For The Hair Treatment

“It was Saturday (31st), and I had a wedding to attend. I went to the salon at around ten o’clock to get my hair done. They charged me 15,000 LKR, and I paid 12,500 LKR upfront. After washing my hair, the salon owner herself started styling it. She instructed her assistants to continue the work and then asked for the remaining money to buy more supplies.

After the owner left, the assistants continued the treatment, applying needles and some kind of medicine to my hair, and told me to leave it on for 45 minutes. I asked to see the substances they were using, but they refused. Soon after, I started feeling unwell with severe headaches, dizziness, and tears in my eyes. I begged them to wash the substance out, but they insisted I wait until their boss returned.

The Nightmare Came After 45 Minutes

I noticed them secretly talking to the salon owner. After they washed my hair, I noticed something was wrong. My hair started falling out in clumps. I panicked and asked the girls why this was happening. They refused to let me leave the salon, threatening me to stay until their boss returned.

My sister came to the salon after I called her. She was shocked when she saw my hair falling out. We both left the salon in a hurry and went straight to the police. Even at the police station, my hair continued to fall out. The police immediately sent me to Minuwangoda Hospital, and later, I was transferred to Gampaha Hospital.”

After recording the complaint, officers from the Minuwangoda Police’s Children and Women’s Bureau searched the salon. By then, the owner and her assistants had fled, leaving the salon keys behind and removing the name board.

The police searched the suspects’ homes, but they had already left. The Minuwangoda police reported the incident to the court, which adjourned the case until September 13th. The court also ordered the Consumer Affairs Authority to test the chemical products used in the treatment, based on the police’s request.
