The European Union (EU) will send 68 Election Observers for the upcoming Presidential Election in Sri Lanka, according to sources from Lankasara. The team includes representatives from various European countries and 36 long-term observers. Some key members of the mission have already arrived in Sri Lanka to begin their work.

The EU team was invited by Sri Lanka’s Election Commission. They have observed six previous elections in the country, with the last being in November 2019.

“The deployment of the EU Election Observation Mission in Sri Lanka shows our commitment to supporting credible, transparent, inclusive, and peaceful elections,” said the head of the EU observer group in a statement.

They also mentioned that the upcoming election is a crucial step for Sri Lanka’s democracy, especially after the political and economic crisis in 2022. This election is seen as important for the country to continue its progress and recovery while respecting democratic values.
