The principal, the vice principal, and two female teachers in charge of the disciplinary committee of the Thanamalwila National School were arrested by the Thanamalwila Police today (13) for concealing the information related to the gang rape of a 16-year girl in their school by a group of students.
It was alleged that 22 school students gang-raped this girl on 07 occasions, although the principal and arrested teachers were informed about the incident, they did not report this crime to the police.
So far, 21 school students and a student’s mother have been arrested by the police in connection with the incident.
The Judicial medical officer of Tangalla Hospital, who was in charge of the forensic examination related to the incident, has subjected the student to an investigation based on a complaint received regarding an attempt to commit suicide by pressuring the student to cover up this heinous crime.
The Thanamalwila Police OIC has assured that a fair investigation will be conducted regardless of the pressure.
