Former State Minister Palitha Thewarapperuma’s Death Confirmed as Electrocution

The post-mortem examination of former State Minister Palitha Thewarapperuma has revealed that his death was caused by severe internal organ damage due to electrocution.

Conducted at the Forensic Medicine Unit of Kalutara Nagoda General Hospital today (17), the post-mortem was chaired by Forensic Medicine Officer K.M.T.B. Gunathilaka. The examination confirmed that the fatal accident occurred at Yadadolawatta, Navuttuduwa Karampetara, where Former MP Thewarapperuma encountered electrocution.

The body was identified by the former minister’s wife, Amita Nalingani Amaratunga, at the Kalutara Teaching Hospital. The accident site was inspected by Kalutara crime scene laboratory officers, with an on-site investigation conducted by the Matugama Additional Magistrate.

Prior to the post-mortem, the body underwent examination by Kalutara Chief Magistrate Neeta Hemamali Halpandeniya.

During the procedure, UNP General Secretary Palitha Ranga Bandara and other UNP activists were present at the Kalutara Teaching Hospital to pay their respects. Following the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the minister’s wife and transported to a popular flower shop in Kalutara around 3:30 pm. Police sergeants J.A.N.S. Jayalath and Nimal Shanta provided evidence on behalf of the police during the examination.
