Hospital sources have disclosed a distressing situation at Kandy National Hospital’s cardiology unit, revealing that both essential angiogram machines crucial for the catheterization department are currently out of order.

This setback has led to the postponement of emergency operations for critically ill heart patients, exacerbating concerns over patient care and treatment accessibility.

The angiogram machines play a pivotal role in diagnosing and treating heart conditions, particularly in procedures such as stent insertion treatment, aimed at addressing blockages in heart vessels. However, the malfunctioning of these machines has significantly disrupted medical services, posing serious challenges to the timely and effective treatment of heart patients.

Typically, angiogram tests are imperative in identifying blockages associated with heart conditions, enabling medical professionals to swiftly intervene and administer appropriate treatment. The absence of functioning angiogram machines not only impedes critical interventions but also hampers the delivery of complex heart surgeries.

According to hospital sources, efforts to repair the malfunctioning machines have been hampered by persistent technical issues, with one machine being out of order for an extended period. Despite assurances from hospital authorities regarding repairs, the situation remains unresolved, leaving patients stranded and medical staff grappling with limited resources.

As a result of the equipment failure, a significant number of critical heart patients have been redirected to the intensive care unit for alternative treatment options. The delay in resolving the issue has raised concerns among healthcare professionals and the public alike, highlighting the urgent need for swift action to address the equipment malfunction and restore essential medical services.

Although hospital authorities had pledged to initiate repairs promptly, recent reports suggest that no concrete steps have been taken to rectify the situation, leaving patients and their families in a state of uncertainty and distress. With lives at stake, there is a pressing demand for immediate intervention to rectify the malfunctioning machines and ensure uninterrupted access to life-saving cardiac care services.
