CT Scan Machine Removed from Colombo National Hospital Causes Disruption in Patient Care

According to hospital sources, the CT scan machine previously operational in the emergency department of Colombo National Hospital was removed on January 25th, with the promise of a replacement. However, a spokesperson for the hospital revealed to Lankasara that the replacement CT scan machine has not yet arrived in Sri Lanka, leaving patients without access to crucial scans.

As a result of the missing CT scan machine, patients in the emergency department and the specialized neurosurgery unit have been unable to undergo necessary scans. This has particularly affected patients who have undergone complex brain and nervous system surgeries, those receiving intensive care, as well as individuals with severe accidents and life-threatening conditions. Consequently, these patients are being transferred to remote units for scanning and testing, causing further inconvenience and delays in treatment.

The hospital spokesperson emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that it will take some time to procure and install a new CT scan machine. Additionally, they highlighted the need to investigate the officials responsible for authorizing the removal of the previous machine before the arrival of its replacement.
