Sri Lanka Women’s Captain Chamari Atapattu Leads ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Team

Chamari Atapattu, the captain of the Sri Lanka women’s cricket team, has been appointed as the captain of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 team for 2023. This recognition comes after Atapattu’s outstanding performances throughout the year.

Atapattu showcased her prowess at the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup match against South Africa in Cape Town, where she played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s 3-run victory with a 50-ball 68. This performance set the stage for a remarkable year for Sri Lankan women athletes, with Atapattu leading the way.

Throughout the year, Atapattu accumulated an impressive total of 470 runs, boasting a strike rate average of 130.91. Notably, she hit 15 sixes during the matches, achieving a personal high in women’s Twenty20 internationals. In the latter part of the year, Atapattu played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s victories against New Zealand and England.
