The Ministry of Defense has officially removed Anthony Emil Kanthan, also known as Emil Kanthan, from Nilkapilla, who previously served as the head of the North East financial department of the LTTE organization, from the terror-related blacklist. This move, which took effect yesterday (23), was taken on the grounds of supporting terrorism.
In addition to Emil Kanthan, Murugesu Sri Sanmugaraja has also been removed from the terror-related blacklist.
Emil Kanthan has faced allegations of involvement in the killing of former Member of Parliament Douglas Devananda while they were both incarcerated in Kalutara Prison.
Subsequently, the Colombo High Court ordered the release of ten individuals, including Emil Kanthan, from the case connected to this incident.
Moreover, there have been claims that Emil Kanthan was implicated in a controversial transaction in which Mahinda Rajapaksa allegedly provided funds to the LTTE organization to prevent elections before the 2005 presidential election.
