Sri Lanka and Huawei Sign Agreement to Advance Digital Education

An agreement was inked during President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s four-day official visit to China, further solidifying Huawei’s support for the digitization of schools in Sri Lanka, according to the reports of the President’s Media Division today (17).

President Wickremesinghe led the Sri Lankan delegation, which signed the agreement while visiting Huawei’s research and development center in Beijing. Huawei, represented by Simon Lin, Senior Vice President of Huawei Institute of Technology and Huawei Asia Pacific Regional President, has already embarked on initiatives to support academic endeavors in Sri Lanka, alongside providing technological infrastructure.

Moreover, Huawei has expressed its readiness to support an annual study program aimed at nurturing software and hardware engineers in Sri Lanka.

During the visit, President Wickremesinghe emphasized that this collaboration with the Chinese government and Huawei is of immense importance for Sri Lanka, especially concerning the development of digital education systems and sustainable energy production.

He stressed the need to build a competitive digital and green economy in Sri Lanka as the foundation for facing the future global landscape.

In attendance at this occasion were Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabri, Minister of Transport and Mass Media Bandula Gunawardena, Presidential Senior Adviser on National Security, and Chief of Presidential Staff, Sagala Ratnayake.

The Sri Lankan delegation, under the leadership of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, also engaged in productive dialogues with key figures from prominent entrepreneurial organizations, including the Civil Engineering Construction Corporation of China.
