The Mullaitivu Magistrate, Judge R. Saravanaraja, rejected a request from the Mullaitivu Police, yesterday (19) to ban the Thilipan commemoration festival. The festival had been a subject of concern due to potential security and peace disruptions in the area.

The Mullaitivu Police had cited a lack of sufficient police forces in the Mullaitivu region to maintain control over the situation. They claimed that anti-festival elements had been targeting participants in the festivities, prompting them to seek a court order to prohibit such events.

However, Judge Saravanaraja declined the police’s request, indicating that the festival would not be banned in Mullaitivu.

A similar request was made by the Ottisudan Police to ban such festivals in the Mullaitivu Ottisudan area was also rejected by Mullaitivu Magistrate Dharmalingam Pradeepan.
