Former US President Donald Trump and 18 individuals have been charged in a 41-count indictment in Georgia, accused of efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in the state.

The charges come in the wake of a leaked phone call where Trump asked Georgia’s top election official to “find 11,780 votes,” sparking an investigation into his actions.

The investigation into the alleged election interference gained momentum after a leaked phone call revealed Trump’s conversation with Georgia’s election official, urging him to find additional votes to overturn the 2020 election results.

The call became a focal point for the investigation and led to the charges filed against Trump and others.

Trump had lost Georgia to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. This marked his first electoral defeat in the state and further fueled his efforts to challenge the results through legal avenues.

The indictment in Georgia constitutes Trump’s fourth criminal case. In total, he is facing 78 criminal charges across three other cases. These charges include allegations of election interference, payments made to a porn star as hush money, and the improper handling of classified documents.

Donald Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing in all of his criminal cases. He has referred to the latest charges as a “witch hunt” and suggested that they are politically motivated. This rhetoric mirrors his stance on previous legal matters he has faced.
