Kanchana Wijesekera, the Electricity and Energy Minister, has announced plans to introduce a special electricity tariff concession for the public starting in January of next year.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the country and the high prices of electricity and fuel, the minister stated that amendments made in July will provide some relief.
The proposal aims to reduce the electricity bill by 27% for consumers using the minimum levels of electricity, specifically within the 0-30, 30-60, and 60-90 unit usage brackets.
The minister also expressed his commitment to implementing this concession.
