The Sri Lanka Cricket has refused to provide the ‘No Objection Certificates’ requested by the Sri Lanka Cricket for Sri Lanka Cricket Captain Dasun Shanaka and Vanindu Hasaranga to participate in a foreign cricket league.
Dasun Shanaka and super bowler Vanindu Hasaranga had sought these no-objection certificates to participate in the inaugural edition of the US Twenty20 Cricket League.
“Washington Freedom” had selected Hasaranga for the inaugural edition of the “Major League Twenty20” tournament to be held at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas between July 13 and 30, while “Seattle Orcas” had selected Shanaka.
According to the Sunday Times, Sri Lanka Cricket Chief Executive Ashley De Silva has stated that the no-objection certificates were rejected following the Board of Control’s decision to allow Sri Lankan players to play only two matches in foreign leagues.
Ashley de Silva stated that Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to allow only four leagues per player per year, including the Sri Lanka Premier League (LPL) and the proposed T10 league.
Dasun Shanaka has represented Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL), “Peshawar Zalmi” in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Dubai Capitals in the International League T20. Accordingly, he has played in three foreign leagues this year.
Also, Vanindu Hasaranga has already played two leagues representing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL and “Desert Vipers” in the International League T20.
