Chief of Defense Staff, Shavendra Silva, has sent an injunction to MP Wimal Weerawansa for accusing him of being involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the Government.

The allegations were made during MP Weerawansa’s speech at the launch of the book, “Namaya Sagawunu Kathawa” (The Hidden Story), which took place at the Sri Lanka Foundation on April 25, 2023.

Following these accusations, Shavendra Silva’s executive officer initiated legal proceedings by filing an injunction against MP Weerawansa.

It is alleged that similar statements were made by the MP during an appearance on the ‘Salakuna’ television program aired on the Hiru TV channel, as well as on other occasions.

In an interview, Shavendra Silva vehemently denied the accusations made by MP Weerawansa, emphasizing that they are entirely false and baseless. He stated that the allegations were fabricated with the intention of tarnishing his and the Sri Lanka Army’s hard-earned reputation, which they have built through dedicated service to the nation for almost four years.

The case will now proceed through the legal process to determine the validity of the allegations made by MP Wimal Weerawansa.
