President Ranil Wickramasinghe has decided to remove the governors of three provinces from their positions with effect from today (15).
The presidential media wing states that the governors of the northern, eastern and northwestern provinces have been removed and new governors will be appointed on Wednesday. Accordingly Governors Jeewan Thyagaraja of north, Anuradha Yahampath of east and Admiral of the fleet Wasantha Karannagoda will be removed from their posts.
Earlier Presidential Secretariat requested these governors to resign their posts. Sources said that three persons from UNP will be replaced to these positions
