Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya, making a statement in open court, said that the National Hospital has failed to provide the records even though it has been more than a week since she directed the hospital to provide all medical records related to the admission of the deceased prominent businessman Dinesh Shafter to the emergency care unit of the Colombo General Hospital.

Yesterday (February 22), she issued yet another order to the director of the Colombo National Hospital to submit all the reports related to the initial tests and treatment received by the patient within two days.

She also ordered to send a reminder to the Director of Colombo National Hospital regarding this.

Since the post-mortem report issued by the judicial medical officer regarding the death of Mr Schaftfer does not mention the number of the bed head ticket where he was treated, the aggrieved party has requested the court provide the relevant reports, including the report of the treatment received on 12/15/2022.

In the meantime, the CID has stated that the government analyst report stated that there are foreign bodies present in the water bottle that was last used by Mr Shafter, the cable wire that was strangled around his neck, and the zip tie that was said to have tied his hands. The post-mortem report and brief autopsy report presented to the court are conflicting, so is the death of Mr Dinesh Shafter a murder? Suicide?

The magistrate mentioned that it was not possible to say precisely and that it was appropriate to ask the opinion of an expert forensic medicine panel in this regard.

Additional Magistrate Mrs Rajindra Jayasuriya further stated that the Director General of Health has submitted to her the list of senior forensic medical experts. She also mentioned that the Director General of the University Grants Commission has submitted a list of the senior forensic professors to her. Accordingly, the magistrate announced that arrangements would be made to appoint an expert panel of five senior forensic medical experts and university professors in the coming week.
