Sri Lanka will stop sending housemaids to the middle east from March of next year and will send trained domestic helpers with international standards instead Minister of Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara states.
The Minister expressed these views while attending a celebration held at the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau today (18) to celebrate International Migration Day.
The Minister of Foreign Employment mentioned that this year will be recorded as the year when the largest number of people went abroad for foreign employment in history. The number of people who left for foreign jobs this year has exceeded 3 lakh.
Accordingly, as of today, 6,120 people have left for work in Korea.
Meanwhile, among the people who left for foreign jobs this year, the largest number of people left for Kuwait, which is 76,579.
69,992 people have left for Qatar and 51,421 for Saudi Arabia. 4,410 workers left for Japan.
