Yoshitha Rajapaksa Resigns From The Navy

The second son of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Yoshitha Rajapaksa has confirmed that he has resigned from the Sri Lanka Navy. Yoshitha who was a Lieutenant Commander of the Navy was recently appointed as the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff. 

According to the Daily Mirror, Yoshitha had submitted his resignation to the Navy after serving for 14 years prior to accepting his new appointment. Accordingly, he had said he resigned from the Navy on October 10 before taking up his new post on October 15.

In February 2016 the Navy suspended Yoshitha due to a  money-laundering investigation against him by the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID). He was once again reinstated in September 2019 with effect from February 2016 on a directive of former President Maithripala Sirisena and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
