A woman has died after being struck by a vehicle belonging to All Ceylon Tamil Congress (ACTC) MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam at a pedestrian crossing near the Puttalam-Bolawatta junction.
The accident occurred on December 8, and the MP was reportedly in the vehicle at the time of the incident. According to police, the MP was traveling from Colombo to Jaffna via the Puttalam-Colombo road when the collision happened. The injured woman was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
The vehicle’s driver was arrested by the Wennappuwa Police in connection with the accident. He was subsequently released on bail after being presented in court.
