Dhanushka Ramanayake, former Media Director General to the President, stated that the University of Wolverhampton in England has officially confirmed extending an invitation to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe for its 2023 function.
Meanwhile, former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake has been summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) tomorrow to record a statement regarding the investigation into Wickremesinghe’s visit to England.
Wickremesinghe was arrested and remanded on August 22 in connection with the visit and was later released on bail on August 26. At the time, he was undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital due to a medical condition. He was discharged on Friday and is now receiving treatment at his residence.
His media unit further announced that the former President is scheduled to deliver a special statement at the United National Party (UNP) convention on September 6. The statement is expected to be addressed to former presidents, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, and leaders of all opposition political parties.
