Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila’s group are now in a discussion with Basil Rajapaksa, whom they call the ugly American on current political crisis.
According to the political sources a group led by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Basil Rajapaksa, Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila and Nimal Siripala de Silva are participating in the ongoing discussions to form an all party government.
The purpose of the current discussion is to decide on the formation of an all-party government and the continuation of its work.
Moderates allege that these group is engaged in a prolonged discussions to delay the process of appointing committees and taking decisions to form an all-party government.
They allege that their aim is to dilute the proposed no-confidence motion against the government and the impeachment motion against the president, even if the prime minister-led government resigns if the concept of an all-party government is to succeed.
Udaya Gammanpila, Wimal Weerawansa, Maithripala Sirisena and others have protested against the Mahinda Rajapaksa-led government and the President’s actions in public, but have not taken any steps to sign the no-confidence motion or bring a correct one if it is wrong, say internal sources.
Mahinda Rajapaksa has repeatedly stated that if an all party government is formed, he will be the Prime Minister of that government as well.
