A container car and a train journeying from Polgahawela to Colombo collided at the Wilwatta railway crossing within the Mirigama police jurisdiction this morning (09) causing traffic disruption.
In light of this situation, local law enforcement authorities are advising passengers and drivers to consider the utilization of alternative routes for smoother travel.
For those embarking on journeys from Colombo to Pasyala Junction along the Mirigama Expressway, it is recommended to bypass the Pasyala Junction and instead opt for the Colombo-Kandy route.
Conversely, vehicles commencing their journey from Divulapitiya can navigate via a left turn from Mirigama town. Subsequently, they can enter the Danmbvita and Warakapola roads, which will lead them to the Colombo-Kandy route.
In addition, the police are notifying vehicles departing from the Mirigama Expressway and en route to Colombo and Divulapitiya to turn left at the Haddamulla junction, facilitating their entry onto Colombo-Kurunegala road number 5.
The incident occurred due to the container car coming to a halt while attempting to cross the railway tracks, leading to the collision with the train. Remarkably, the driver of the container had vacated the vehicle at the time, thus averting any personal injuries.
