Dr Haritha Aluthage, secretary of the GMOA, states that they are not against imposing taxes, but there should be a rational basis for that. However, they would agitate against tax policies that drive intellectuals out of the country, a tax that cannot be paid, tax policy that creates wage disparities, and an illegitimate tax policy that has no owner.

He said that if the government does not agree to a discussion in this regard, the professionals are ready to speak the same language that the government understands.

Dr Aluthge also stated that the Executive Council of Government Medical Officers will meet today and decide on the course of action as regards the government hospitals.
