Sri Lankan migrant workers in Israel asks to be repatriated

Nearly 320 Sri Lankan migrant workers residing in Israel have requested the Sri Lankan government to provide them with a special repatriation flight. The group has forwarded the request to the Sri Lankan President and the government.

According to sources, 66 out of the group are ill and have been waiting since March to return to the island. Many have lost their jobs and have had to find paid private accommodation as a result. A Sri Lankan residing in Tel Aviv said despite informing the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel of their plight no assistance had been provided.
