For the first time in Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Transport has launched a website and a mobile app for advance booking for train seats online for any individual.
The website and mobile application were launched yesterday (22) under the patronage of Transport Minister Dilum Amunugama.
The website can be accessed via the extension: https://seatreservation.ralja.gov.lk/mtktwebslr/ By accessing this website and using the mobile app, you will be able to book train seats in Sri Lanka in the future from anywhere in the world.
The ticketing process has been fully digitized.
The Ministry says that the activated automatic ticket booking system will enable passengers to reserve tickets for all railway tracks.
Train tickets, as well as train season tickets can be purchased
from this system department sources said.
Passengers can get first class and observation compartment tickets, second class, third class tickets as well as travel tickets covering a travel frame.
Tickets can be purchased online in several ways, including Visa, MasterCard, and Lanka QR.
Passengers can obtain their reserved tickets by arriving at the railway stations through the m-Ticketing service and presenting their National Identity Card (NIC) or Passport with the reference number on the ticket.
The Department of Railways hopes to issue electronic tickets through this system in the future and those tickets will be able to be verified by the QR code.
