Second Plane Crash in Days: Tragedy Strikes Philadelphia
A tragic plane crash in northeast Philadelphia on Friday evening claimed the lives of six people on board and at least one person on the ground, marking the second fatal aviation accident in just a few days.
The small medical transport plane was carrying a young patient from Mexico, her mother, and four crew members when it crashed into several buildings, resulting in a massive fireball. All six passengers were Mexican nationals.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker confirmed that another victim, a person in a car, was killed, while 19 others sustained injuries, with the number potentially rising.
Plane Was in the Air for Only a Minute
According to flight logs, the aircraft took off at 6:07 PM local time and crashed within a minute, just 6.4 km from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The plane was en route to Springfield, Missouri.
Eyewitnesses described the horrifying scene, with burning debris raining down on the streets, damaging vehicles, and setting multiple houses on fire. Some compared the explosion to an earthquake, saying the sky turned bright orange from the flames.
Emergency Response and Investigation
First responders worked through the night, extinguishing fires and searching for survivors. Authorities urged residents to stay away from the crash site and not to touch any debris.
The Mexican government confirmed that its officials are assisting the victims’ families. The young patient on board had received treatment at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia and was returning home to Tijuana, Mexico.
This heartbreaking crash comes just days after another plane accident, raising concerns over air travel safety.
