Ranil asks the real data on foreign reserves for the house

Former Prime Minister and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today (Oct. 10) called on parliament to present accurate figures on the country’s foreign exchange reserves. Mr. Wickremasinghe further stated that there are reports that the current foreign reserves are less than one billion dollars and that if this information is presented to Parliament from time to time, the steps to be taken in this regard could be discussed in the future.
Speaking further Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe said,
“We want to know the exact value of the country’s foreign reserves. We see the recent swap currency exchange loans from India and China and the credit line from India being added to these foreign reserves. It should not be so. The actual amount of foreign reserves received as loans should be presented to Parliament to the Committee on Public Accounts. As I mentioned yesterday, I request that the report of the International Monetary Fund on Sri Lanka be tabled in Parliament after its approval by its Board of Directors in the third week of February “‘.
