PSC calls for an Explanation from the Secretary of Law and Order on the transfer of three senior DIGs

The Public Service Commission has directed the Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Order to submit a report on the immediate transfers effected to three Senior Deputy Inspectors General of Police by the Inspector General of Police. The IGP has acted over and above the powers of the Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Order. The PSC said.

The PSC has pointed out that a procedure to effect transfers of Senior DIGs is already in place.

They have stated the power to transfer is stipulated in Gazette No 2202/24 dated November 20 and vested with the Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Order. However, the PSC has said no such transfers were referred to them for approval. The PSC has further pointed out that transfers of senior DIGs can only be carried out subject to the approval of the PSC. Therefore the PSC has directed the Secretary to submit a report within three days concerning the matter.
