Prime Minister Assures Investigation into Controversial Statement by CEB Spokesperson

CEB Spokesperson resigns following the controversial statement

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena addressed Parliament today (22), pledging to conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action against the media spokesperson of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). This statement comes in response to the spokesperson’s controversial remark made last Friday (16) suggesting that lamp light is sufficient for children to study.

During the parliamentary session, Prime Minister Gunawardena assured lawmakers that the matter would be thoroughly investigated, and disciplinary action would be taken against the spokesperson following due process. His response came following a question raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, who demanded the suspension of the spokesperson and the initiation of an investigation into the matter.
