President’s security immediately transferred to Police from Army !

The control of President’s Security Division (PSD) which under the Army has been transferred immediately to the Police with effect from today. Following the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa came in the the power it was the Presidents security was handled by the Army which was headed by a Major General.
However is is reported that the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Puttalam District Nimal Perera has been appointed as the Chief of the Presidential Security Division from today. Meanwhile SSP J.B.T Jayalath who was in charge of Nugegoda Intelligence surveillance has been appointed as the Director of the Presidential Security Division. .
It is said that this decision was taken due to the current situation in the country and the inability of the Army to intervene in civilian affairs.
So far, the PSD, comprising about 400 members of the Police and a large contingent of the Army, has been operating under the command of a Major General of the Army.
According to the Police Headquarters, in addition to the team of police officers currently serving there, a team of officers trained in Primitive Security will be attached to the PSD.
