UN Secretary-General Assures Full Support for Sri Lanka's Economic Recovery and Sustainable Credit Efforts

In a meeting held in Paris during the conference for a new global financial agreement, President Ranil Wickremesinghe and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres discussed Sri Lanka’s economic reforms, debt restructuring, and progress in economic recovery. President Wickremesinghe highlighted the government’s commitment to sustainable economic policies and emphasized the need for a strong financial framework to ensure long-term stability.

Furthermore, President Wickremesinghe briefed Secretary-General Guterres on the “Climate Prosperity Plan,” outlining comprehensive strategies to address climate change while promoting sustainable development. The importance of cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United Nations in economic reform, debt restructuring, and tackling climate change was underscored.

Additionally, President Wickremesinghe participated in the Head of State session of the conference, chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron. The session saw the presence of prominent leaders and representatives from various countries, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, among others.

During this gathering, important discussions took place on global financial matters, emphasizing the significance of international collaboration in shaping a new financial agreement.
