Ruby Franke, a well-known parenting advice YouTuber who ran the channel “8 Passengers,” has been arrested in Ivins, Utah, on suspicion of child abuse. Franke’s arrest came after her malnourished 12-year-old son escaped from their home and sought help from a neighbor, who reported his emaciated condition and injuries to authorities.
Franke and her business partner, Jodi Nan Hildebrandt, are both facing two felony counts of child abuse. The investigation led to the discovery of another child in a malnourished state at Hildebrandt’s residence.
The incident began when the 12-year-old boy climbed out of a window and sought assistance from a neighbor, who was shocked by his condition. Law enforcement arrived and observed the severe malnourishment and injuries, leading to the child’s hospitalization.
A search warrant was obtained, resulting in four children being taken into the care of family and child services. Franke’s 10-year-old daughter was also taken to the hospital.
Ruby Franke gained fame on her YouTube channel, “8 Passengers,” where she discussed parenting and her experiences raising six children. The channel had over 2 million subscribers before being deactivated earlier this year.
Franke has faced criticism in the past for her strict parenting methods, including allegations of withholding meals as a disciplinary measure.
Her eldest daughter, Shari Franke, expressed relief after her mother’s arrest, stating that her family had reported concerns to authorities for years.
Ruby Franke requested an attorney and did not provide statements to officers. The attorney representing her had not been publicly identified at the time of reporting.
