A young businessman named Vidusha Silva, closely affiliated with the Lanka Premier League’s (LPL) franchise Dambulla Thunders’ owner, and Samantha Dodamwela, Director of the tournament, were questioned yesterday (28) by the Police Special Investigation Unit on the prevention of wrongdoings in sports
According to police sources, the director of the LPL tournament was questioned for almost two hours, and the businessman for more than seven hours. The businessman, who arrived at the Special Investigation Unit yesterday morning at around 9:00 am, reportedly left the investigation unit at around 4:30 pm.
Police sources revealed that the director of the LPL tournament and the businessman arrived at the Special Investigation Unit yesterday with their lawyers. Despite the initial questioning of the businessman and the director in relation to the match-fixing conspiracy ending yesterday, the Special Police Investigation Unit has reportedly informed the two individuals that they may be called for further questioning if necessary.
Vidusha Silva, who is said to be the owner of a company related to social media networks, is reported to have worked with the ‘Goal Titans’ team in last year’s LPL tournament. He was questioned by the investigating officers regarding the work he is expected to conduct with the Dambulla Thunders this time.
Meanwhile, during the recently held players’ auction, the businessman allegedly live-streamed the behavior of the officials of the Dubai-based IPG company, which owns the LPL tournament. The police have also questioned the reasons for live-streaming such an incident.
Reliable sources related to the incident revealed that the alleged businessman may have been questioned by the investigating officers about his desire to work in connection with the LPL tournament. He may have revealed information about several other people involved in the match-fixing conspiracy.
The owner of the Dambulla Thunders, Tamim Rahman, was arrested earlier by the police while attempting to flee the country. Rahman is a British national of Bangladeshi origin.
