Police Officers Under Investigation for Alleged Ties to Drug Traffickers

Police officers suspected of maintaining contacts with prominent drug traffickers involved in underworld activities, both domestically and abroad, are set to undergo scrutiny regarding their assets.

According to reports in the Daily Mirror, authorities are gearing up to identify and investigate police personnel accused of collaborating with leading figures in drug trafficking circles, even while incarcerated. As part of this investigation, the properties and assets belonging to the suspected officers will be meticulously examined, alongside an inquiry into the sources of their income and scrutiny of their bank accounts.

Secret investigations have reportedly already commenced to gather information on these individuals, utilizing both police officers and the Public and Security Committees of respective areas to root out corruption.

These investigative measures come in response to intelligence suggesting that certain officials have been involved in illicit activities, allegedly accepting substantial sums of money as bribes and leveraging their positions for personal gain.

A recent incident highlighted the severity of the issue, as the Inspector General of Police took action to suspend the station commander of Agalawatta Police, following accusations of close ties to an underworld gang and regular monetary transactions with them.

Information received by police headquarters indicated that the suspended officer maintained close relations with underworld figures ‘Kudu Anju’ and ‘Alto Dharma,’ reportedly operating from Dubai. Both the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police Special Investigation Unit (SIU) have launched investigations into the matter.

According to the Daily Mirror’s investigative reports, these probes are particularly focused on the Western and Southern provinces, known hotspots for organized crime and drug trafficking.
