Pledged Urea by India to receive in next month

 

65,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer provided by the Government of India will be delivered to Sri Lanka in the first two weeks of next month Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of Agriculture, forest and Wildlife Conservation said.

The stock of fertilizer was imported by the Government of India from Oman for their own needs and the India has decided to provide this stock of urea fertilizer considering the current shortage of fertilizer in our country, the Minister said.

It is reported that some farmers have refused to accept the urea fertilizer provided by the Indian government.

They have rejected the fertilizer saying that there is no need for fertilizer as it is the Yala harvest season.

The distribution of this fertilizer will be done within two to three days through the National Fertilizer Secretariat’s office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Commercial Fertilizer Company, Ceylon Fertilizer Company and other network through Agrarian Service Centers, the Minister said. .

Arrangements have been made to hand over a bundle of urea fertilizer to farmers for a sum of Rs. 10,000.
