NPP to restructure after dismal electoral performance

The National People’s Power (NPP) led by the leftist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is to be restructured following its dismal performance at the recent General elections. According to its leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake the party will be restructured and the party will make inroads to the rural areas going forward. “We will make a comeback,” he said. Dissanayake made these comments at a press briefing held at the JVP headquarters yesterday (07).

Dissanayake said he admits there was a setback at the elections. “We expected more seats but the result was unsatisfactory,” he said. The NPP secured only two seats through votes and another through the national list. Dissanayake said the NPP will name an MP for the national seat following discussions. “We already have a particular order in the list and the person will be decided accordingly” he noted.

Dissanayake assured the NPP will carry out its duties despite only having three seats in the opposition. “We can carry out these duties with even just three seats” he said. “The role of the opposition can even be carried out outside the parliament premises” he added.
