The Trade Union Alliance of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has decided to refrain from participating in meetings or conducting any business with the Minister of Energy, senior officials of the Ministry, or the CEB management, as part of their intensified trade union actions beginning today.
Accordingly, the unions have also decided not to comply with any directives issued by the Ministry officials.
The CEB Engineers’ Association has warned that it will not hesitate to launch stronger trade union action next week if its demands continue to be ignored.
President of the Electrical Workers’ Association, Kosala Abeysinghe, stated that there could be delays in restoring power outages that may occur due to the prevailing bad weather conditions.
He further said that the trade unions will not abandon their ongoing action as long as the authorities act arbitrarily and fail to respond positively to their demand to rectify the irregular restructuring process.
The Engineers’ Association also pointed out that although a month has passed since all CEB trade unions, including the Engineers’ Association, began their strike on September 4, the authorities have yet to take any meaningful steps to resolve the issue.
