National Drug Regulatory Authority to enforce the law strictly against errant pharmacies

The National Drug Regulatory Authority states that the concessions given to private pharmacies during the COVID epidemic will be removed as soon as the country recovers and will be dealt with according to the regulations of the Drug Regulatory Authority.

According to Amita Perera, Food and Drug Inspector of the Drug Regulatory Authority, the facility where medicines were obtained by submitting medical prescriptions via WhatsApp and the distribution of medicines through courier methods will be completely stopped.

However, Amita Perera says that if medicines are taken to a patient’s home based on a doctor’s recommendation, they should be taken and given by a pharmacist, subject to stipulated temperature controls.

In addition, he said that it is mandatory to operate the air conditioner in all pharmacies 24 hours a day and not to dispense medicine without a pharmacist or without a doctor’s prescription. It is also mandatory to have a qualified pharmacist in the pharmacy and display his registration certificate and a photograph.
