Polonnaruwa District Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala, who was returning from a rally at Temple Trees demanding that the Prime Minister stay in office, has shot himself with his firearm at Nittambuwa. He has died following a dispute with angry protesters who blocked the main road.
Following the attack on Gota Gogama, he was returning with his bodyguards when he was caught in a protest crossing the Kandy road in Nittambuwa.
When the protesters surrounded the vehicle in which he arrived. At this point, the somebody has opened fire on the protesters.
Two were shot and wounded. At the same time, the MP escaped from the most angry protesters and fled to Nihal Fashions , a leading apparel store in Nittambuwa.
