Ministry of Health Extends Service Period for Specialist Doctors

The Ministry of Health has decided to extend the service period of specialist doctors in public service to the age of 63.

The Court of Appeal was informed of this decision by the Attorney General, representing Additional Solicitor General Nerin Pulle. The announcement took place during the hearing of writ petitions that challenged the Cabinet’s decision to reduce the retirement age of specialists to 60 years.

During the court session, the Additional Solicitor General informed the judges, including President of the Court of Appeal Judge Nishanka Bandula Karunaratne and Mr. M. A. R. Marikkar, that the Cabinet would soon reach a decision on the matter.

A total of 176 doctors filed the petition, which sought to challenge the Cabinet’s decision. The case is scheduled for further proceedings, and the Additional Solicitor General has stated that he will present the facts related to the Ministry of Health’s decision to the court through a motion on June 30.
