The Teacher’s Association of The medical Faculty of Colombo University says they are greatly concern on the recent appointment of new Chancellor to the University of Colombo and they have requested from the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to reconsider the decision taken on the appointment of the new Chancellor of the Colombo University.
Issuing a media release signed by The President Professor Sudharshani Wasalathanthri and Secretary Dr Chathurie Suraweera of the Medical faculty Teacher’s Association, they further stress that holder of the post of the Chancellor of a university should be an academic, intellectual as well as a professional of the highest calibre who commands the respect of the students, academics alumni and the community at largest both locally and internationally. The Association further points out that the post of Chancellor of the university is the symbol of embodiment of its prestige and the dignity. They also emphasize that The person who is appointed as the Chancellor should have a history of conduct in the past in keeping with the high standards expected of the holder of the post and should be capable of abiding by such conduct in the future.
